Virtual World, Real Money

From The Desk Of: Billy BanksDate:
September 27, 2008

Dear Friend:
Does the thought of being able to earn REAL money playing a VIRTUAL game excite you?

In fact, up until now, the majority of people who were able to make BIG money playing games were athletes who possess rare physical skills that all of us “average” people just don’t have.

But now that is all about to change.

You see, in a mere matter of minutes, I’m going to reveal how anyone – old or young, fat or skinny, smart or dumb – can make money playing the virtual game “Second Life.”

Just how much could you earn?

Well, five figures a month and seven figures a year are definitely not out of the question! Just recently, an article in FORTUNE Magazine said the number of professionals earning full-time incomes by manipulating virtual economies such as that in “Second Life” is skyrocketing!

And now you can discover the secrets you need to know to cash in on this rapidly-growing trend … right from the comfort of your own home!

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

A terrible Chaos Plague defiles his lands, ravaging the populace and weakening his armies. Meanwhile, the Dwarf holds in the nearby World's Edge Mountains have come under siege by a massive greenskin horde. Honor-bound by an ancient oath, the ruler of the greatest nation of men in the Old World has dispatched several regiments to assist the embattled Dwarfs, further depleting the Empire's already thin defenses. In this dark hour, a new threat appears. Under a sky darkened by a crimson eclipse, a great warhost erupts from the wastelands of the north. Bearing the banner of Tzeentch, Changer of the Ways, the army of Chaos marches south for the borders of the Empire, crushing everything in its path.

Second Life Linked in Story to Attempted Kidnapping

This is one that's, hopefully, irrelevant, but good to be aware of in case people like Representative Mark Kirk are paying attention: Kimberly Jernigan, 33, of Durham, N.C., was arrested by police for attempting to kidnap an ex-boyfriend, 52, that police say she met in Second Life. The two reportedly interacted for some time in the virtual world, met in real life several months ago, and broke up, which prompted Jernigan to drive to Delaware and stalk her ex before attempting to kidnap him. In other words, Second Life sounds like it didn't play much of a role in the incident, but it is featured in the headline of the story and referenced several times throughout, along with the fact that Jernigan's avatar was a lion and her boyfriend used a female avatar. Hopefully it stays a non-story instead of rallying point for worried politicians.

Winking Entertainment Licenses Emergent's Gamebryo

Winking Entertainment, which provides design and localization services for virtual worlds, announced that it had licensed Emergent Game Technologies' Gamebryo 3D engine. Both companies went through rounds of funding in July, with Winking securing $8 million and Emergent securing $12 million. Gamebryo underlies Oblivion and the upcoming Warhammer MMO, and will allow Winking to develop more outsourcing work across multiple platforms and systems. Emergent said that as developers turn to China for less expensive development work, companies must look for new technologies to differentiate themselves. It says it has capitalized on that trend for close to 900% revenue growth in China over the last 18 months.

Rosedale: Linden's strategy is broad over niche

I realize that headline may be like saying "God: Water's point is to be wet instead of dry," but the reasoning (from Linden Lab, not God, which would go way past my amateur grounding in philosophy) is still worth looking at. In a recent, lengthy interview with Metanomics, Philip Rosedale, Linden Lab's Chairman of the Board, talked about the broadening of use cases for virtual worlds. His vision is that, ultimately, they'll be "in a place of dominant use for computing environments." What's more interesting to me is the way that Linden is approaching that plan.

What's Behind NC West?

MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood recently caught up with David Reid, the President of newly minted NC West. The formation of this new company from NCsoft has been the starting point of a number of runors about the future of NCsoft Austin. In this interview, Reid speaks about the new company, and the future of games like Tabula Rasa and Dungeon Runners.

Warhammer Online: Mark Jacobs on the IP, Marketing and EA

Speaking directly to the experience working with the Warhammer IP, Jacobs credits the team’s strong familiarity with the franchise in terms of making it easier to develop. The third point that Mark made revolved around what he describes as the strong relationship with Games Workshop (the owners of the Warhammer IP) that the studio had even prior to getting the license.

Chris Taylor gets to work on Fallout MMORPG

As most people know, Bethesda owns the Fallout intellectual property. Bought off of struggling Interplay for $5.75 million, everything from the radscorpions to Nuka Cola is owned by Bethesda. You would assume that any future Fallout game is going to have a Bethesda stamp on the box.
Interplay is legally able to make a Fallout MMO if they : a) started to work on it within 2 years of signed over the Fallout rights; b) were able to secure $30 million of funding, to do the job right; and c) finished the game before April, 2013.
Do you think you have what it takes to be a Technical Director? A current Interplay job ad is looking for one -- but you'll have a better chance of getting the job with "Familiarity with the Fallout® universe." With this job posting, the new hire, the clause in the contract and some hints dropped here and there in forums, it seems like it's 'game on' for a Fallout MMORPG.

Agni PC Game Launched in India by FXLabs, Zapak and Sify

The most popular forms of entertainment in India are Bollywood and cricket. There have been many video game titles on cricket but no one has yet ventured out and made a game with a Bollywood theme. Well, all that is about to change as FXLabs along with Zapak and Sify launched Agni, a third person shooter role playing game for the PC.

Arun Mehra is the chief marketing officer at Zapak. He commented, “Today Zapak is the leader in the gaming space with the sheer virtue of the largest gaming community (over 4 million) residing on it. When we saw the Agni game by FXLabs, we were very excited as this is probably one of the first Indian games that will stand up to international standards, therefore despite the fact that this is a PC game we felt it was important to associate with it to promote the game.”

Agni has already been released and is available to a global audience. The game can be downloaded from the FXLabs website. Agni looks like a decent game and it is great to see that someone has taken an initiative to come up with Bollywood themed games. Who knows, they could soon come out with a movie based on Agni! wow gold site:wow gold world of warcraft gold

Gogomodo Trivia! Your source for Second Life's best and most competitive trivia.

GogomodoTrivia.com has thousands of trivia questions and answers located centrally in a database. The in-world trivia object calls the database to retrieve a new question randomly. The question is then asked in chat, with the characters and spaces that make up the answer given as a clue.

For example:

If the answer is:
Jack Nicholson

Then the trivia object will show:
**** *********

If no one gets the answer within a few seconds, the trivia object will start to give clues. It will replace three of the astericks, one character at a time, to give additional clues.

Scores are kept daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and all-time.
